About Nottpad

Somebody's favourite book is being written right now, one chapter at a time.

Nottpad is a serial fiction platform, The World's Notepad. Writers publish as they go, readers follow along, and stories find their audience chapter by chapter.

1.

Our mission

Serial fiction belongs to everyone who writes it. Nottpad exists so you can put a chapter in front of readers when it's ready, and let the work speak for itself.

We think the interesting stories are the ones nobody commissioned: the fan epic that outgrew its source, the 400,000-word slow burn, the horror serial written on a night shift. Our job is to carry them, surface them honestly, and get out of the way.

2.

Where we stand on age ratings

Every lawful story is welcome here. That is not a loophole. It's the point. Grief, addiction, war, sex and the genuinely strange belong in fiction, and a platform that quietly deletes them isn't protecting anyone. It's just editing reality.

What we owe readers instead is an honest label. Every story carries one of five age bands, assigned after publish and shown on the cover, in search, and on the shelf it sits on.

All ages8+12+15+18+

Authors may declare 18+ once at publish. Our classifier still runs and may raise the band. Those stories sit behind age verification and an explicit opt-in before you can read them.

3.

How moderation actually works

  1. 01

Publish, then the classifier rates it

On publish, we run the chapter through an automated age-rating check. The band is assigned automatically, usually within seconds. Published text is classified for age bands only. See our Privacy Policy for how that works.

  2. 02

Disagreement raises the band, not a takedown

If the classifier reads it hotter than you declared, the story moves up a band and you get told why. Your words are never altered.

  3. 03

    Humans handle every report

Reader reports are reviewed by a person, not an automated strike queue.

04

What gets removed

We remove what the law removes. Everything else stays, rated for age.

  • Sexual content involving minors

Any depiction, real or fictional. No exceptions, no appeal.

  • Non-consensual real-person content

Sexual or intimate depictions of a real person without consent, including deepfakes.

  • Real-world harm instructions

Actionable guidance for violence, weapons, or terrorism dressed up as fiction.

  • Doxxing & targeted harassment

Publishing someone's private information, or fiction written to identify and harass a real person.

  • Bestiality

Sexual content involving humans and animals. Illegal in most jurisdictions, no exceptions.

Fiction that pushes boundaries but stays within the law is welcome here. Age ratings tell readers what they are walking into before they open the first chapter.

Who's behind it

Nottpad is a solo project built in the UK. I'm a software engineer who likes to build things that make people happy.
